Most of us are completely unaware of the calories and sugar we ingest over the holiday season. One big culprit is the coffee we drink. Black coffee is a no calorie, sugar free drink, but I don’t hear this ordered much. What I do hear is, “I would like a Peppermint, White Chocolate Mocha, with whip cream. “ We think because it is “coffee” it isn’t bad for us. Before I give you the facts, I want you to know that the average TOTAL daily caloric intake should be between 1,500 –2,500 calories. Also, 4 grams (g) of carbohydrate/sugar equals one teaspoon of sugar. The following coffee drinks are all 16 oz:
Vanilla Latte – 280 calories, 11 g. of fat, 33 grams of sugar (8 tsp)
White Chocolate Mocha – 500 calories, 22 grams of fat, 59 grams of sugar (14 tsp)
Peppermint-White Chocolate – 550 calories, 22 grams of fat, 74 grams of sugar (18 tsp)
Peppermint Mocha – 440 calories, 19 grams of fat, 53 grams of sugar (13 tsp)
Eggnog Latte – 480 calories, 22 grams of fat, 48 grams of sugar (12 tsp)
Pumpkin Spice Latte – 340 calories, 10 grams of fat, 47 grams of sugar (11 tsp)
When snacks are around we tend to reach in the bowl, grab, eat and repeat. I know for myself I become numb to how many handfuls I take. Being aware of the calories can help you make better choices.
