Food and health. It should be so simple. We know what we need to do. Fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, good grassfed meat, wild caught salmon, a little bit of nuts and seeds… But why don’t we stick with it and why do we instead reach for the Doritos, icecream, bread, and candy bars? First and foremost, I believe in personal responsibility, that it is up to you to make the right choices. But secondly if you only knew what the “food” industry is doing to us you would understand. It isn’t all your fault.
I would like to recommend the book “The End of Overeating” by Dr. David Kessler. In it he tells us that the food industry hires people who come up with the right “food” formula of fat, sugar and salt to make us addicted to their products. The “food” industry spends a HUGE amount of money on marketing so you have to have their product. Take the new KRAVE cereal from Kellogg’s. The label tells us that it has fiber and whole grains and is made with real chocolate. This is a breakfast cereal. Do any of you see a problem with this? It is not healthy and, in fact, it is what is keeping Americans fat and unhealthy. Processed, highly addicting, low grade carbs and tons of sugar is not good for you. They know once you take a bite you will have to come back for more. That is why they called it Krave. If you think the little green label at the top saying Fiber and Grains is a stamp of approval by some health organization then you need to keep reading my blog. Your eyes will be opened.
Now that you have some information you are more equipped with making healthier choices at the store. If it isn’t made in nature I suggest you limit or avoid the “food” industries frankenfoods.
